A striking Italian cabinet attributed to the architect and designer Italo Gamberini, made for Villa F. in Pietrasanta during the late 1930s.
Constructed in cerused chestnut, the cabinet has two tall doors incorporating panels of moulded, bevelled glass. The fronts are distinguished by an unusual geometric arrangement of applied diamond-shaped mouldings, giving the piece a strong architectural character. Panelled sides, restrained cornice moulding and a contrasting dark-green leather clad plinth complete the design.
The cabinet combines the clarity of Italian Rationalism with decorative geometric detailing characteristic of the period. A related piece of furniture by Gamberini was illustrated in Stile, July 1941.
Structurally solid and in very good condition.
