A striking French Art Deco wall console by Philippe-Georges Normand, combining substantial glass slabs with a bold architectural composition capturing the experimental use of glass in French interiors of the early 1930s.
The console is illustrated in L’Illustration, Intérieurs modernes, 27 May 1933 (see image), in a depiction by Paul Thomas of the dining room of “M. J. B.” in Paris. The accompanying caption credits Normand as decorator and specifically describes the console, dining table and cupboard doors as constructed from dalles de verre brut—slabs of raw glass.
Small chips to the glass slabs. The mirror plate is a replacement.
