Side table by Italian designer Carlo Bugatti (1856-1940), circa 1890's, Milan, Italy.
Walnut and stained maple wood frame, pewter inlays, hand-hammered wrought copper appliques and legs wrappers. The table has had restorations to a number of the wooden stars which have been replaced and painted (see photos). There are a few old woodworm holes which have been treated.
A member of the influential Italian Bugatti family he is the son of the specialist interior decorator Luigi Bugatti and father of renowned sculptor Rembrandt Bugatti and the Bugatti automobile founder Ettore Bugatti.
