A delicately drawn early head study by Émile Friant, executed when the artist was nineteen. Friant was an exceptional draughtsman and became celebrated for his highly observed portraits and scenes of everyday life.

Presented in an elaborate gilt Art Nouveau frame, circa 1900, decorated in relief with swans, flowers and flowing aquatic motifs.
