Oil on canvas by renowned French Figurative artist Jean Souverbie (1891-1981), signed and dated 1926.

Souverbie was known for combining Picasso's Cubism with the traditional naturalism of Nicolas Poussin.

His work is exhibited in many Museums and galleries worldwide including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Musée Rolin in Autun, the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart, and the Petit Palais in Paris.

The painting is a version of one of his works titled 'L'Enlèvement d'Europe"

The artwork has been framed in an early 20th century French ebonised and gilt wooden frame. 

Indentations, some traces of the stretcher and small marks to the right edge.
