An oak writing table attributed to the English leading figure in the Gothic revival, architect, designer, artist and critic Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-1852).
The table was most likely supplied by Hardmann, circa 1841.
Notable Pugin designs include the Houses of Parliament and the interior of the House of Lords.
A version of this table is featured on the cover of the Fine Art Society book "Architect - Designers Pugin To Mackintosh".
The moulded top over a single frieze drawer with two drop handles, raised on 'X' supports united by a stretcher.
In very good solid condition. The top appears reset, filled holes visible. Drawer runners and handles appear to be old replacements.
